August / Late summer is the time when most people are taking their vacations. They tend to ignore some of the things going on around their home. Any yellow jacket situations that weren’t detected or dealt with will become a big problem. Yellow jackets have the ability, once in a structure, to grow their nests so large and eventually breaking through a sheetrock wall or ceiling. Thousands of bees can drop into a room at any given time. Hospital visits and hotel stays are sure to be on your schedule. Don’t ignore these situations; stinging insects are very aggressive and dangerous. All County Pest Control can professionally and safely handle these difficult situations and effectively eliminate and remove, if necessary, these large nests.
Carpenter ants will once again start to be on the move, this time foraging for fatty type foods to build up their stored fats to be able to survive through the winter. This foraging activity should be a sign of nesting that may have been over looked or just in the beginning stages of the spring. Keep in mind if a nest exists within your home, there is most likely some sort of moisture problem that needs to be addressed. You should see where these ants are most active and look for potential moisture problems. Carpenter Ants like a 17-19% moisture level, which does not have to be a dripping type of leak. A slow constant leak that gets absorbed by wooden members of your home is the most common areas. If there are cracks around the tub/shower area, water gets under the floor and absorbed by the plywood sheathing and stays very damp. This is the type of area Carpenter Ants love. Similar situations are window sill areas with slow leakage into the wall, faulty flashing around chimneys where plywood roofs will hold the moisture and where decks are attached to the house, this is a very high risk area for moisture and Carpenter Ant nesting.
If you find these type of area in your home and have an active Carpenter Ant problem, contact All County Pest Control. We can assess the situation and make necessary recommendations regarding corrective measures and proper treatment.
