As winter shifts back into spring, we here at All County Pest Control shift our focus from rodents back to the insect world. Every year the bug forecast is a little bit different. Some years we can expect heavy tick activity, others we know that Ants are going to be a major concern. There are a myriad of different factors which can effect what pests we should be on the look out for this coming year. While predictions can be tricky, we’re fairly confident that these are some of the issues you may find this bug season.
- Ants. Whether large carpenter Ants or one of the many different species of small Ant, Ants have always been a major pest problem. Drawn into your home by the readily available food water and relatively safe nesting sites, these little pests will gather resources to make their numbers swell.
- Termites. Termites swarm in the spring when the weather warms. This behavior can sometimes be the only sign of an infestation before serious damage is done to your home. An active healthy colony can consume wood very quickly potentially doing serious structural damage to your home. If you have any concerns that termites have been in or around your home, we recommend that you contact a pest management professional immediately and schedule an inspection.
- Wasps. Paper wasps are usually not very aggressive, unless you’re close to their nesting sites. They unfortunately have a bad habit of setting up shop under the railing of your deck or inside your outdoor grill. Lucky these nests can be small and easy to deal with. Yellow-jackets and Bald-faced Hornets however can build huge aggressive nests if given the chance.
- Ticks. These blood sucking parasites have to potential to carry several different diseases that im sure you’d rather avoid. Always remember to use insect repellent and dress appropriately when out hiking in the woods. But what about your lawn? If you have a well shaded lawn near a wooded area, there’s a good chance you could have ticks questing for new hosts hiding in the grass.
- Mosquitoes. A bother at any backyard BBQ these pesky flies can also be dangerous as they are vectors for many diseases. We can treat to reduce their numbers, and if you do your part to eliminate conducive conditions there’s a good chance you can have a mosquito free backyard.
