Springtime Pest Prevention Tips

Late spring is the time of year that people really get the sense to start their outdoor activities. The kids are playing baseball and soccer in the yard. We start to plant our gardens and flowers around the home, lawns are in full growing mode and the lawnmowers start to come out.  Just like we are getting very active the insects are as well.

Paper Wasps could be the most bothersome this time of year.  Early on they are trying to establish nesting sites along your roof lines, gutters, shutters and overhangs.  Worse is when they make homes in the railings of your decks, terraces and pools. By this time any Carpenter Ants are in full swing and roaming around your lawns, gardens, patios, decks and entering your home from all sides.

Ignoring these pests is not recommended.  Their nesting will continue and their populations will increase. Carpenter Ants will take up shelter in your home and eventually relocate any outdoor nests to the confines of your home.  The wasps will increase and soon nests in attics will grow and as you come and go from your house you will always be at risk of a sting.  Finding out one is allergic to these stings the hard way is no fun at all.  Every precaution should be taken to eliminate these pests from your home.

At this time it is very important to take maintenance procedures to reduce nesting material that wasps and bees use. Reducing the amount of dry, scaly wood surfaces on houses, fences, decks, RR Ties, and sheds will reduce the amount of wasps and bees that are attracted to your home n search for these nesting materials. We recommend power washing and proper staining to return these wooden areas back to a healthy new state.

Once again a good Exterior Perimeter Treatment of foundations, roof lines, shutters and decks is very important to reduce this population. All Count Pest Control’s Home Protection Plan, includes these types of treatments as long with other year long treatments for various household pests.
