Is Your Home Attracting Ants in Winter?

January is the dead of winter, temperatures are at their lows and frost has set in. Some common pest problems that people encounter during this time are the tiny/pavement ant. These small ants spend their life living below grade. Perhaps in the summer time you notice ant hills in your yard or patio and these little ants climbing on your outdoor tables.

In the winter the deep freeze drives them below ground and they are drawn towards your foundation in search of warmth.  Most boilers or heating units are installed on the concrete slab of your home and they radiate the heat all through the concrete. These ants sense this heat and are attracted to these areas. Once there, they find the smallest of cracks or gaps in your foundation and floor and they work their way into your living environment.  Once inside their numbers are outstanding.  They travel by scent and work their way towards food sources. They will find the holiday cookies and candies your kids have hidden in their rooms, They will find the kitchen area loving the garbage pail and dish washer. Their numbers and persistence becomes very annoying.

These pests need to be dealt with immediately before they get well established and wide spread. All County Pest Control can help identify these pests and the areas that they are possibly originating from. Recommendations will be made and proper treatment methods performed.  It is advisable to consider a large exterior perimeter treatment in the spring and summer months to help control the overall population. All County’s Home Protection Plan is the best method for dealing with these pests.
