Hungry Deer Means Landscaping Damage

October/November means leaves start to change colors, acorns begin to drop and days and nights are both getting very cool. This is when you will see squirrels scampering around to collect the acorns. Acorns are a large food source for all sorts of wildlife. Some years the great oaks drop an abundance of acorns and some years very few. These conditions can effect wildlife’s need to search for other food sources, this usually brings them close to your home. Even if there are an abundance of acorns but we have many weeks of snow covered ground the acorns remain covered.

Deer rely on acorns for a major food source during the winter. Hungry deer can pose a real threat to your landscape plants and shrubs, damaging them beyond repair. With the deer population at a high and the constant building of new homes, the deer are being forced to survive closer with man. This causes even more landscape damage than normal.

There are “deer resistant” plants out there, but the hungriest of deer will eat almost anything.  Installing high fences around the perimeter of your property can be very expensive and unsightly. Putting up temporary fences or netting around gardens and landscape can be very time consuming, costly, unsightly and in the end usually ends up getting breeched. Deer can use these fences to prop themselves up and still gain access to the plants and shrubs.  Also harsh winters often collapse these temporary fences and netting leaving your landscape at risk.

All County Pest Control has a great solution. We offer a fall application of a winter deer repellent called DeerPro.  DeerPro is a commercial grade taste deterrent deer repellent only available to licensed commercial applicators. DeerPro goes on milky green and remains in place through rain, ice and snow. The milky green color will fade in early spring as new plant growth emerges. One application in the fall will still be lasting come early spring, there is no need to reapply in the snow and ice of winter, leaving you peace of mind that your landscape is fully protected.

DeerPro is applied using a low pressure back pack sprayer. Treatment requires about an hour to dry and then it will be fully adhered to your landscape and protection starts immediately. Although very rare, in the event that you find that deer have been feeding on any landscape plants, simply call us and we can follow up with a spot application.
