Termite season is upon us. One of the most often misdiagnosed insect is the Termite. Termite swarms very closely resemble flying ants to the untrained eye. You can visit our FAQ page on our website under the resources tab to see the difference between a flying ant and a flying termite. Termites only have two body segments and most often shed their wings when they swarm. All County Pest Control can identify these insects and provide an inspection and treatment plan that best suits your situation.
As it is with all pest problems, proper maintenance is very important. Although termites tend to run with the land and exist in nature by the billions, there are some steps that can be taken to help reduce the risk. Most important is what we refer to as Earth to Wood contacts around your home. We traditionally like to see at least 8” – 12” of exposed foundation around the entire home. Proper roof water drainage management is very important to keep the soil dry and less appealing as well as keeping trees and shrubbery away from the home. Where possible stone or mason retaining walls should be used, firewood and wood debris need to be as far away from the home as possible.
Currently there are many methods of treatment and control of termites. Most of these methods are now considered environmentally sound and do not effect ground water. Call All County Pest Control and ask about getting a complete evaluation of your home. All County uses the Advance Termite monitoring and Baiting system as part of their recommended control process.
