October / fall is when the outdoor pest season starts to wind down, but a whole new set of potential problems arise. Wildlife and rodents seem to also want to enjoy the warmth and comfort of your home. This time of year mice and rats will move closer to the home in search of warmth and shelter. A field mouse only needs the width of a pencil to gain access into your home. They will look for holes in the foundation, climb up under siding and find entry, follow A/C lines up to attics, or simply enter through the garage door. Being under All County Pest Control’s Home Protection Plan, is the best way to assure these critters don’t multiply once indoors. Mice have a high rate of reproduction. They reproduce every 5 – 6 weeks, with only a couple week gestation periods. Young mice become sexually mature at 4 – 5 weeks of age. Their population can take off like crazy in the ideal situation. It is said that in a perfect scenario, two mice living in ideal conditions and if none were to die off could produce over 25,000 descendants in a years time.
Rodents, although they appear cute to some, are very undesirable creatures. Their habits expose them to many diseases and the spread of them as well. Rodents travel mostly by scent, as their vision is very poor, so to be able to find their way around they leave a urine scent trail to mark their pathways. Rodents will spread disease through their urine and droppings as well as on their fur as they pass by contaminated area containing mold and mildew. New studies are showing rodents are becoming a significant causes for many asthma and flu like cases.
If you find evidence of rodents in your home, don’t ignore them and think that they will just return outside. Once inside they will multiply and generations of mice that are born indoors will most likely never return to the outdoors. A rule of thumb when it comes to mice, where ever you think you have one mouse, you must multiply by ten to represent the hidden colony.
All County Pest Control can effectively and safely handle any rodent issue that you may encounter. We have the experience to understand their habits and potential nesting areas and can identify the proper areas for treatment, taking the safety of your family into concern.
